In 1905 Infantry officers of line regiments wore a double breasted blue frock coat in drill order but officers of the Highland regiments adopted a white waist-length jacket which was in line with the uniform which had been worn by Highlanders for the last 50 years. It also allowed the kilt to be shown off. Previously officers wore a scarlet shell jacket but this was now reserved for mess uniform. The officer wears a similar undress sporran to the lance corporal, and they both wear glengarry caps. The lance corporal has a good conduct stripe on his left forearm with a shooting proficiency badge and a signallers badge. His red rank stripe was worn on the upper right arm. He has a white waist-belt for his bayonet while the officer has a shoulder-belt for his broadsword.
