Highlanders detailed for guard duty are inspected by the duty officer and the RSM. The men are in dress uniform but the officer and sergeant-major are in blue patrol jackets, glengarrys, trews and brown leather gloves. The men have different badges on their left forearms, good conduct stripes (one for 2 years, two for 6 years), signallers crossed flags, and crossed rifles in gold for best shot in his company.
