After the fighting in North Africa the 5th Battalion fought in Sicily and then returned to Britain for the D-Day preparations. They arrived in Normandy on D-Day plus One and advanced through France, Belgium and Holland. This photo shows men of The Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders at Schijndel in 1944. They wore the same battledress uniform as the rest of the British army without any Scottish distinctions except for the Tam O’Shanter bonnet which was worn when they were not wearing the helmet.
