The final ceremonial parade of the 1st Bn The Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders before amalgamation took place on 25 Nov 1960. Major General Douglas Wimberley, the last Colonel of the regiment, took the salute and inspected the men. The photo of the regiment at Balmoral in 1955 showed that only the officers and NCOs were in possession of No.1 Dress uniform, while the rank-and-file were still wearing khaki battledress blouses with their kilts. This photo shows that by 1960 the whole battalion was issued with No.1 Dress. The jackets are in Piper Green with dark blue turn-backs on the short coat-tails. The officers in the foreground show the back of the uniform, and the buttons and gold braid can just be seen on the turn-backs.

The Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders marked the amalgamation with the Seaforth Highlanders at Redford Barracks, Edinburgh on 7 Feb 1961. The officers and sergeants assembled in the officers’ mess to drink a toast to the new regiment.
