The glengarry was worn by the Queen’s Own Highlanders in most orders of dress. This example looks black but is in fact dark blue. There was no dicing as there was in other Scottish regiments. The cap is edged with black silk and at the back there are black silk ribbons which hang down to the collar. The badge is the combined stag’s head, motto and crowned thistle, in two parts, although officer’s badges were in three parts. The badge is backed with a black silk cockade and has the royal blue feather hackle which was adopted by the QO Cameron Highlanders in 1940. This hackle was retained as a regimental distinction after amalgamation with the Seaforths in 1961 and also after amalgamation with the Gordon Highlanders in 1994.
