These orders of dress were worn in warm climates. The photo was taken in South Korea. The 1st Bn Queen’s Own Highlanders were stationed in Hong Kong from March 1980 to December 1981. No.3 Dress was the white tunic worn for ceremonials instead of No.1, but the white tunic has a skirt similar to the khaki service dress jacket. However, the white tunic buttoned up to the neck, with a stand-up collar that has regimental badges. The lance corporal on the left has a gold lace stripe on red backing and the private on the right has badges on his upper arm which are not clearly visible. They are in kilts and hair sporrans (introduced in 1970) while the four men in the middle, in No.4 Dress, have trews. These four men have open-neck tunics of lightweight material. The trews are of a different tartan to the kilts. The kilts are in the MacKenzie tartan while the trews are Cameron of Erracht.
The men are named as Lance Corporal A Stewart, Private K Scott, Private R Henderson, Private D Wilson, Lance Corporal G Bonnyman and Private K Valentine. The photo was published in Queen’s Own Highlanders by Lt-Col Angus Fairrie (1983).
