The pattern of shoulder belt plate for officers remained similar to this up to c1814. This example is damaged and has no coloured enamel around the 79 as later plates had. It could be the belt plate of a senior NCO. The title CAMERON HIGHLANDERS dates it after 1804. The design prior to this date was probably similar but inscribed CAMERONIAN VOLUNTEERS. The plate is burnished gilt with silver central device and silver raised rim.
