Other Ranks Belt Clasp 1855 - 73

The rank and file of the 79th wore a white leather waist-belt to carry their bayonet. This belt clasp was worn from 1855. The regiment was known, from 1806, as the 79th Regiment of Foot or Cameron Highlanders, and it is the last part of their title inscribed on the outer circle. The inner circle slotted inside the outer part to fasten the belt. The title of the regiment changed in 1873 to The 79th Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders and in 1881 the number 79th was discontinued.
