These bandsmen of the Queen's Own Highlanders (Seaforth & Camerons) were photographed in Hong Kong in 1980. They are in no.3 dress uniform, a white jacket, which was designed for dress occasions in tropical stations. In the UK and less warm climates no.1 dress jackets were worn which were archer green. The tartan sett does not show up very well in this photo but it is Cameron of Erracht. Bandsmen and pipers traditionally wore the shoulder plaid in the style of the officers in levée dress. Drummers continued to wear the fly plaid. The full dress feather bonnet was worn but with the badge of the Queen’s Own Highlanders post-1961. The diced band no longer had green squares in the middle row, now replaced by blue. The hose worn by these musicians is derived from that worn by the Seaforth Highlanders.
