In 1994 the Queen’s Own Highlanders (Seaforths & Camerons) were amalgamated with the Gordon Highlanders to form The Highlanders (Seaforth Gordons and Camerons). This side drummer wears full dress; a scarlet doublet with blue collar and cuffs. The shoulder straps are buff but the wings are blue with white lace that has a repeating red crown pattern. The same lace is on the front and back of the sleeves, and on the back seams of the jacket. He is a lance-corporal, his rank displayed on the right arm only, as a single gold stripe. There is an embroidered drum badge above the stripe.
The plaited cords arranged around his shoulders, and bugle cords and tassels, are blue and buff as worn by the Queen’s Own Highlanders. Badges of the Gordons are on his belt clasp and on each side of his collar; white metal tiger badges, facing inwards. The drum is yellow and emblazoned with the regimental badge and combined battle honours. The Cameron of Erracht tartan is worn as a kilt, and fly attached behind the left shoulder. The hose, formerly Seaforth pattern, have reverted to Cameron green and red. The photos were originally published in Regiment magazine issue 40, Sep 1999.
