Thomas Brown joined the 79th as an ensign on 23 Oct 1806, promoted to lieutenant on 15 Dec 1807. He was present with the regiment at the siege of Copenhagen and served in the Peninsula, fighting at Busaco, Fuentes d’Onor, Salamanca, Pyrenees, Nivelle, Nive and Toulouse. He also was involved in the action at Foz d’Aronce and at the siege of Burgos. In the Hundred Days campaign he was severely wounded at Quatre Bras, losing his left hand. He was awarded the silver medal with clasps and the Waterloo medal. This photo was taken c1850.
