This Colour, along with the Queen’s Colour, was the 7th Stand of Colours, presented to the 1st Battalion on 30 May 1955 by Queen Elizabeth II at Balmoral. The 6th Stand had been presented on 9 Jan 1923 at Calcutta by General Sir Havelock Hudson, and laid up in Glasgow Cathedral. The battle honours are the same as those emblazoned on the Regimental Colour of 1914; a selection of the honours for the two World Wars was borne on the Queen’s Colour. The VR cypher of Queen Victoria continued to occupy the four corners of this Colour and was not replaced by Queen Elizabeth’s cypher. But Elizabeth’s crown was on the central thistle and at the head of the Union wreath.
