British Empire Title

The Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders

Ensign George Harrison

George Alexander Harrison joined the 79th as an ensign on 23 Nov 1852 and was promoted to lieutenant on 8 Aug 1854. He was a captain on 13 July 1855, placed on half pay on 10 Nov 1856. The record of officers in the regimental history does not mention whether he went to the Crimea. He was reappointed to the regiment at some stage and retired in 1866. The photo shows him in undress uniform, a scarlet waist-length jacket with dark green collar and pointed cuffs. There are twisted gold cords on his shoulders and a crimson silk sash across his chest. The jacket is fastened with small gilt buttons. He has tartan trews and a dark blue glengarry cap with a regimental badge on the left side.
