The silver shoulder cord is secured with a small diamond-shaped button, and a similarly sized button is on the collar with what looks like a silver cord loop. The front of the jacket shows that there are three vertical rows of buttons, and an enlarged drawing of a button reveals that the figure of St Andrew is on each one. The shoulder-belt on the right shoulder has ornate silver buckle, tip and slide pieces but no regimental badge at this stage. This supports his broadsword and remained part of Highland pipers’ accoutrements even after the sword was discontinued for pipers c1880.
The shoulder-belt is worn over the plaid that crosses his chest up to the left shoulder. A simple brooch inscribed CAMERON HIGHLANDERS holds it in place and the plaid trails off the shoulder. A detail shows a round cuff and slash flap, both green, with four buttons.
