There are several differences between the uniform and fittings of the Pipe Major and the pipers under his command. The lance-corporal has a single gold chevron, point downwards on the upper right arm, with a piper’s embroidered badge above. There is gold lace on the wings of his no.1 dress doublet and gold braid button loops on his cuffs and skirts. The white metal collar badges are Seaforth Elephants of a different pattern to the Pipe Major as they have ASSAYE on a scroll above. The topmost badge on his black shoulder-belt is a Seaforth badge, the Duke of Albany’s Star. Below the buckle is a badge of the Gordons that incorporates the Sphinx and the Royal Tiger of India. The slide has CAMERONS inscribed across it, and the lowest piece is the ornate tip of the belt.
The shoulder plaid brooch shows the crest of the Marquis of Huntly within a wreath of ivy. The waist-belt plate is the same as worn before 1994, bearing the badge of the Queen’s Own Highlanders, a stag's head and motto with a crowned thistle between the antlers. The same badge is embroidered on the pipe banner. His dirk is in a black sheath fitted with silver but having no knife and fork like the Pipe Major. He wears the tartan of Cameron of Erracht, and the green and red hose that were formerly worn by all ranks in the Cameron Highlanders.
