David Harriott


David Harriot was born in Great Stambridge, Essex in April 1788. He was a cornet in the 5th BNC on 9 Oct 1803, promoted to lieutenant on 2 Feb 1808. He fought in the 3rd Maharatta War and was promoted to captain on 1 Jan 1818. He was a major on 26 Mar 1829 and lieutenant-colonel on 1 Sep 1834, posted to the 10th BLC on 31 Oct 1835, then to the 6th BLC on 26 Dec 1835. In 1839 he was transferred to the 8th BLC. In the First Sikh War he commanded three cavalry Brigades and fought at Ferozshah. He transferred to the 9th BLC on 6 Dec 1847 and was appointed Colonel of the 6th BLC on 30 Oct 1848. He was appointed CB on 3 April 1846. On 10 April 1849 he went on furlough and died on 6 Sep 1851 in Cheltenham. He was married to Anna Margaretta Louw on 1 July 1823.
