Map of Northeast India

This map, drawn by H J Huxford, shows the region in which the Sylhet Battalion operated and was based. Sylhet is on the Surma River which shares the same estuary as the Ganges and the Brahmaputra. The Khasi Hills between the Brahmaputra and the Surma are where the hill stations of Cherrapunji and Shillong are situated. The battalion’s foray into Burma in 1825 was confined to the Manipur border region, not marked on the map but is a mountainous area to the east of Sylhet.
