Cornet Charles Wyndham joined the 9th BLC in August 1843 and made sketches and paintings during his time with the regiment. This copy, made by Godfrey Brennen, gives an indication of the uniforms worn by the rank and file of the regiment. The picture is titled ‘Camp Scene by Moonlight’ and dated 1846. The men are in the undress French grey stable jacket, with orange facings. Their trousers are dark blue with a white stripe. The caps are the peakless shakos as seen in the 1830 print of the 7th BLC, but with white covers. The naik has two silver stripes, edged in orange, on his left arm. This signifies that rank was shown on both arms, although the more usual indication was right arm only.
