Officer’s Dress Pouch c1850

These items of dress for an officer of the Bengal Light Cavalry are not dated and could have been worn in any of the 10 regiments except the 5th. The pouch is silver but not hallmarked. It has BLC in gilt, and the pouch itself is in dark blue leather. The information accompanying this photo, taken from an auction catalogue, says that the pouch-belt included in this lot has silver lace and a central orange silk line, but the silver chains and pickers are missing. There is also a sword belt of regimental pattern with a silver snake clasp.

The other items in the photo are silver chin scales for the officer’s shako. They are attached to plain pateri shaped bosses. The sword knot is silver bullion and crimson forming a large tassel, and coiled semi-permanently on the sword hilt. Other items in the lot included silver shoulder scales to be worn in undress, the crescents ornamented with trophies of war.
