British Empire Title

The 9th (The East Norfolk) Regiment of Foot

Belt Plate c1787

The white metal shoulder-belt plate, probably worn by other ranks, is engraved with the figure of Britannia, a Hanoverian crown, and the numeral IX below. The regimental badge differed from other representations of Britannia in that she holds a laurel branch. The shield leaning against her seat is plain whereas other images have the Union flag design. The 1787 date is conjectural, but it could be from the early 1780s.
