Hans Lötter

Johannes Cornelius Jacobus Lötter, known as Hans, was a Boer Commander from Cape Colony, operating in conjunction with Gideon Scheepers and Pieter Kritzinger. He had a reputation for brutality, forcing reluctant locals to join the war, murdering British prisoners and flogging Afrikaaners. He was imprisoned at Graaf Reinet, where the photo was taken, and after a trial was executed by firing squad.
