Sher Singh

Sher Singh Attariwalla is not to be confused with Sher Singh, son of Ranjit Singh, who died in 1843. He was a member of the Sikh nobility and led the Khalsa army in the Second Sikh War of 1848-49. His date of birth is not known, but he was the son of General Chattar Singh Attariwalla. He was finally defeated at Gujrat on 21 Feb 1849 and died in exile in Benares in 1858. The portrait of Sher Singh next to a typical Sikh gun is by animal rights activist, Colesworthey Grant c1850.
