Natal Native Horse

This drawing of troopers of the Natal Native Horse depicts two men of Jantji's Troop which was raised later in the war, from tribemen of the southern Drakensberg to serve in the Coastal Column. They were well mounted on hardy ponies and rode barefoot, using their big toe to clasp the stirrup.
