The Bala Hissar, Kabul

The Bala HIssar was the ancient walled fortress within Kabul. Originally, the British took control of the fortress and made it available to Shah Shujah. Soon, they vacated the fortress for a cantonment to the East of Kabul. Shah Shujah's own soldiers took control of the Bala Hissar with a contingent of British guards.
