Beloochis in the Bolan Pass

Various tribes competed for control of the passes in and out of Afghanistan. They extracted money from travellers in return for safe passage. This image shows what may have greeted those who did not wish to pay for the privilege of using the passes. The Beloochis were just one of the many competing tribes although they often united when faced with a common enemy, such as the British! The use of the long ranged and accurate Jezail made their ability to harrass those using the passes easier to implement.
