Bolan Pass

Due to the pleadings from Ranjit Singh, the main British advance into Afghanistan came from the southern Bolan Pass rather than through the more famous Khyber Pass. This meant that the route taken by the British was going to be far longer and more tortuous. This resulted in severe supply issues as the soldiers and camp followers found it impossible to live off the land.
