Dr William Brydon was the token survivor who arrived in Jellalabad after the rest of Elphinstone's army had been wiped out. He was later immortalised by Lady Butler in a famous painting of his forlorn arrival. Undaunted by his military experiences he took part in the Burmese Campaign ten years later and ended up playing a crucial role in the Siege of Lucknow during the Indian Mutiny. |
