Angel of Cawnpore

The inhabitants of the city of Cawnpore were forced to pay '30,000 to pay for the creation of a full memorial. This was partially their punishment for standing by and not coming to the aid of the women and children in distress. The Angel was designed by a friend of Lady Canning's: Baron Carlo Marochetti. Indians would not be allowed to enter the memorial and park without a pass.
