Sobraon Cavalry

Smith's column as harassed and attacked by Sikh cavalry at Budowal. This print from the Illustrated London News is a fairly accurate rendering of the costume worn by the Sikhs. The headgear was often tall and conical with steel quoits around them. They were armed with matchlocks and carried shields on their backs to be used with their tulwars (swords).
