Sobraon Colours


This print by Martens shows the final moments of the First Sikh War. The regiments depicted are the 50th, 31st and the Nasiri Battalion of Gurkhas. The Colour being held on the left hand fortification, is buff, being the regimental Colour of the 31st Foot. The fallen Sikh in a red kurta is being struck by a kukri knife, wielded by a Gurkha.
