View of the Heights

This view of the Chagru Kotal was sketched by Melton Prior at Shinawari Fort, a staging post of the Tirah Field Force. The start point of the expedition was Kohat, the route taken was via Shinawari, across the Khanki Valley, through the Sampagha and Arhanga Passes and into the Tirah Maidan. The Dargai Heights can be seen in the centre of the picture, in the distance. Prior noted in the corner a reference to the battle of Chagru Kotal. This was how the battle was called before the more popular name of Dargai.
