SS Canberra

The British government leased SS Canberra in order to help transport the Commando Brigade down to the Falklands. This allowed HMS Hermes to be freed up from its normal Marine support role to allow it to help provide air cover for the Task Force. Canberra would prove to be invaluable and surprisingly versatile. It was quickly adapted from a Cruise ship into a fully fledged troop carrier complete with helicopter and air defence facilities.
