Ian McDonald

Ian McDonald was the public face of the British government for much of the Falklands Conflict. His dull monotone voice cut an idiosyncratic style in an era of increased public relations. The Americans felt that his appointment was 'strange' and many sought a more 'professional' replacement. However, when attempts were made to remove him and replace him with younger looking serving officers, there was a public surge to see him reinstated. He continued being the spokesman for the MoD until the end of the War.
