1st Gurkhas

Sepoy and Band Members, 1935

Next to the sepoy on the left is a piper. His uniform is no different from the rest of the other ranks. At the beginning of the century the pipers wore a Scottish doublet with white braid and a shoulder plaid. Next to hih is the drum-major and then a drummer. They also have plain tunics where 30 years before there would have been wings on the shoulders. They do have red and black cords like the Lance Naik Bugler and the drum-major has leather guantlets. They all appear to have the India General Service medal.
