8th Gurkhas

Gurkha Officer, 1880

The pillbox cap is slightly domed at this time instead of being flat-topped. The collarless tunic has a panelled front like the 'zouave' style tunics of the red-coated Indian regiments. The silver crossed sword badge on his right shoulder denotes subadar rank, one sword for a jemadar. This was later changed to kukris instead of swords. The cuffs are slashed with three silver buttons. Sword knot and slings are of black leather.
