9th Gurkhas

Col. Woodhouse and Officers, 1900

The British officers wear field service caps and the Gurkha officers wear Kilmarnock caps. They are all in service dress. The pistol lanyard is worn mostly over one shoulder, only the Colonel and a Gurkha officer to the left of him wear it in the usual way, round the neck. Two British officers have the more modern Sam Browne belt with one shoulder strap, but the one with the light coloured cap is probably the medical officer. The other is not a Gurkha officer as he has brass buttons instead of black like the others. The Gurkha officers wear puttees while the British officers wear leather gaiters.
