Officer and Sowar, Full Dress 1911

Schematic illustrations by A H Bowling. The sowar carrying the lance has a plain kurta with white piping round the base of the collar, down the front and tracing the pointed cuff. There are steel shoulder chains and he has a leather waistbelt over his red kummerbund. Pouchbelts for other ranks were discontinued early in the century.

The 9th prided themselves on the fact that their other ranks wore Napoleon boots but in 1902 they followed other regiments and adopted black puttees. The lance has a red over white pennon which is the normal colour for lancers but the regimental history states that in the early days, at least, the pennons for the 9th were dark blue and white.
