91st Punjabis


Subadar, 1909


This Indian officer is wearing full dress; drab tunic with red facings. His brown leather pouchbelt has silver whistle and chain with the distinctive crossed dahs badge which here incorporates the light infantry bugle and the number 91 above. This man is Subadar Kalander Khan and he can be seen in one of A C Lovetts paintings in 'The Armies of India' (see Subadar in Service dress).
