11th Hussars

Regimental Badge

The badge used on the cap and as an NCO's arm badge is the crest and motto of the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha dynasty. This was adopted by the regiment after Prince Albert's death in 1861 but not officially sanctioned until 1876. It is a pillar charged with the arms of Saxony rising out of the ducal coronet and also crowned with a similar coronet out of which rise 5 peacock feathers. The motto is TREU UND FEST meaning 'Faithful and Strong'. During the First World War it was not worn as an arm badge, nor was any badge worn on the special pattern beret in WW II, because of it's German connection.
