11th Hussars

Sabretache, 1840

When the 11th became hussars in 1840 this elaborate style was adopted. The gold lace is unique to the regiment and is called basket and diamond. The cloth ground is the cherry colour used for the trousers of all ranks, it was the livery colour of Albert's Saxe-Coburg family. The crown is the guelphic version and the cypher is a reverse VR. The battle honours are the same as those on the earlier Victorian Light Dragoon sabretache.
