Sabretache, 1839

This sabretache was short lived. The cypher is Queen Victoria's. She came to the throne in 1837, so this style would only have lasted from then until the regiment became hussars in 1840. The battle honour SALAMANCA has been added, that honour was granted on 26th July 1838 so the date of this sabretache can only be between then and 1840. The lace of the 11th Light Dragoons changed from silver to gold in 1830, so this style has gold train lace and gold embroidered cypher and crown. The honour scrolls and laurel leaves are unusual in that they are solid gilt metal. The regiment had been granted the battle honour EGYPT in July1802 but the Sphinx did not appear on the sabretache until this version. It is solid silver.
