13th Dragoons

Clement Nevill

Nevill joined a regiment of Foot in 1688 with the rank of Ensign. He reached the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel by 1706, having transfered to Lovelace's regiment of Foot. At Brigheuga he was taken prisoner. He became Lt.-Col. of Munden's Dragoons, as the 13th was known, in 1715 until 1720 when he was appointed Colonel of the 14th Dragoons, then the 8th Dragoons in 1737. Two years later he was promoted to Major-General and reached Lieutenant-General in 1743, one year before he died as the eldest commissioned officer in the service. He is seen here in General's uniform.
