Captain W A Kennard DSO




Captain Willoughby Arthur Kennard was born on 20th May 1881 first commissioned into the Royal Monmouth Engineers and joined the 13th Hussars as a 2nd Lieutenant on 21st Mar 1900. He was promoted to lieutenant on 5th Oct 1901 and Captain on 13th Dec 1906. He served in the South African War from 1901 to 1902 and whilst in India was placed on temporary half pay on 4th April 1908 but was 'restored supernumerary' to the Establishment with precedence next below Capt Hamilton-Grace. He also served throughout the First World War in which he was awarded the DSO in 1915 but he was severely wounded and died on 30th Oct 1918 at the age of 37. He was buried in Etaples Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais.
