13th Dragoons


Officer's Shako Badge c1830



The Maltese Cross was adopted as the standard badge of the light dragoon regiments around 1830 but the centre was of a regimental design. The 13th had the title in Roman Numerals with the motto VIRET IN AETERNUM surrounded by an olive wreath and PENINSULA above, and WATERLOO below. The shako at this stage was lower in height than in the 1820s.
