Mounted Corporal c1888

The corporal is in stable dress which is made up of a blue waist length stable jacket with buttons down the front and yellow piping on the collar and cuffs. The badge on his collar is a brass XIV which one source says was worn by depot staff c1890. He has two gold lace stripes on his right arm and a corporal's regimental badge above them. The sword appears to be attached to the slings which are suspended from a white leather waist-belt. From 1891 the sword was attached to the saddle when mounted. Also hanging from his waist-belt is a plain black leather sabretache. This was discontinued in 1888 for ranks below senior NCO. His uniform also consists of blue breeches with yellow stripes, and a blue pill-box forage cap with a yellow band. The picture was taken at one of the regiment's English postings following their return from India in 1886. They changed stations almost annually, first Shorncliffe, then Aldershot, Hounslow and Brighton.
