Private in India 1907

The 14th Hussars were in India from 1906 until the First World War. This private wears the winter undress frock which is blue but of lightweight material. The two good-conduct stripes on his left sleeve look as if they are badly sewn on but they are tacked on so that they can be removed when the tunic is washed. This was done frequently because of the hot climate. The shoulder chains look a little too long and drop too far off the points of his shoulder. The white foreign service helmet was worn with this uniform but the yellow cap-lines seen here were not attached to the helmet.
