Cap Badge

The Prussian eagle, or hawk, was not the principal badge of the 14th Hussars but it had more prominence due to the fact that the Royal Crest was also the badge of two other cavalry regiments, the Royal Dragoons and the 15th Hussars. The 1900 Dress Regulations include this badge in the illustrations and refer to it as the Puggaree badge as it was worn on the foreign service white helmets during their service in India in the early 1880s. For their service in England and Ireland up until the Boer War the other ranks wore it on their field service caps. This bi-metal cap badge is similar to the NCOs' arm badge but has '14th King's Hussars' below the eagle. It was discontinued at the end of 1914 and replaced by the badge of the Royal Crest.
