Majuba

A contemporary engraving of General Colley at the battle of Majuba. The soldiers usually depicted in this disaster are the Gordon Highlanders. The defeat was a blow to the British Imperial spirit and when the second Boer War broke out in 1899 the British were anxious to 'wipe the slate clean' and avenge the massacre.
