Robert Campbell Stephen


Robert Campbell Stephen joined the 14th Hussars in 1890 as a second-lieutenant. By 1897 he was a captain and adjutant, a post he held until 1900. He was commanding Officer of the 14th Hussars from 1911 to 1915. After leaving the regiment he commanded the 4th (Meerut) Cavalry Brigade in India from 18 June 1915, then was promoted to brigadier-general and commanded the 6th Indian Cavalry Brigade in the Mesopotamia campaign from 15 Feb 1916. He relinquished command in May due to sickness. His son, Lt-Col R J Stephen, commanded the 14th/20th Hussars in 1948.
