Sand River Drift


The artist Melton Prior made many sketches during the Boer War. This detailed rendering of the army crossing Sand River shows the wagons with their long trains of oxen and mules having to ford the river near the broken rail bridge that had been destroyed by the Boers to slow the British advance.
